What do you think of the NEW JCP?

I have been seeing commercials for the ‘new’ JCPenney’s for a while and FINALLY, today is the day.  I wasn’t sure what to think about it (the commercials were slightly annoying with people screaming LOL), I haven’t visited their stores in a while, but now I might.  They have a new pricing strategy, and it’s interesting, a little like Walmart’s Everyday low prices.  So today, 2.1.12 it starts.  Head over to their facebook page to see more details.  What do you think?  Thumbs up, down?

  1. Thumbs down. I don’t care HOW low their prices are, they totally lost me with the commercials every 5 minutes on every channel…

  2. I am skeptical.  I loved using their coupons ($10 off $10 and $10 off $25) and I fear those may be gone :(

  3. Girl Friday says:

I am all for stores being more honest about what they require you to spend for items. Example: Picked up a pocket watch for my bro-in-law at Kohl’s, once home, I took off the top sticker and found a sticker underneath with a lower [original] price than the pretend regular price upon which the “sale” price was based. Keep your three-hour events and 2-day sales. I prefer honest communication, no pressure, less [event/sale] crowded stores, and less offensive (because it is so obvious) consumer manipulation. Frugal savings shouldn’t be based on some arbitrary retail price scale but rather on the difference between what you would actually be willing to spend for the (or similar) item and what you actually did pay. The buyer’s ultimatum: this is our price; take it or leave it. Clear and honest pricing is far more appealing to me than pretending to save money with sales, but that’s just my 2 cents.

  4. I spent 1/2 hour yesterday morning and 1/2 hour in the evening trying to purchase “Best Price” baby items.   After 20 tries, not a single item was available.  It was a waste of time.

    • The reply JCP sent speaks for itself:

We try our best to fill all orders. Sometimes we under estimate demand and cannot get more in stock. We’ll let you know if an item is no longer available or will be delayed. We also reserve the right to limit quantities based on merchandise availability. Most electronics and sporting goods are not available in our stores, but are available in our catalog or on jcp.com.
