How To Start A Container Garden
Sure, I do have the space to have an outdoor garden, but the problem is that I don’t have a green thumb more like a black one. So instead of investing in a bigger garden, for now I’m trying my luck out with containers.
Making a Container Garden is great if you don’t have the outdoor space to do one since you are probably living in an apartment. Herb gardens are great! Also remember that the larger the pot, the more your veggies will thrive and we want that don’t we?
I’m still experimenting with my container garden. This is the FIRST year that I have done one. I’ve always wanted a vegetable garden, but between having kids and not a green thumb I’ve put it off. Yep, that’s my excuse besides being lazy.
What did I use for soil? 2 parts potting soil to 1 part compost and I mixed it in a HUGE bucket
I would put herbs in the smaller container and vegetables in the larger containers. For my container garden I picked green onions, cilantro, squash, tomatoes, lettuce and something else that I can’t remember. I did tape the seed package to the containers but my kids took them off!!
I wasn’t giving the vegetables the water that they needed and I was watering them in the middle of the day!! Til hubby said try giving them MORE water near their roots and watering them in the morning before the sun hits them.
I’ve also read that you don’t want to really water your vegetables at night since plant diseases thrive in damp, warm conditions and so you don’t want your leaves to remain wet after the sun goes down. That the sun (heat) throughout the day will help evaporate the moisture on the leaves.”how
Has anyone put mulch on their vegetables? I’m wondering if that will help with watering them too. My mom says that the mulch will help keep the soil cooler. Is that true? Well, I should listen to her since she does have the green thumb.
