Default DECA Regions

I get so excited to read the free/cheap thread to become disappointed when I walk into my own commissary and see the price difference with items. Am I the only person who wonders how DECA splits up different regions of the USA? I am in MD and typically shop here, but I will go up to NoVA to shop. It appears the stores within my area ( 2 hours) have the same prices. Yet Ft. Lee which is in Virginia ( 2 hours south) but down by Richmond will have lower prices.

Best example Winiski (sp) posted Land O lakes Cinnamon butter for 1.19, but up in my region its 1.65 I consider that a significant price difference almost .50 cents.

I am not really clear why there is a price difference, salaries are fixed. Yes we get more BAH, but cost of housing is more money.

I wish I could align regions. My husband is stationed in Norfolk, so I will be mailing him coupons of the stuff I want him to get. LOL We are going down for his homecoming and I am seriously thinking about going down a day earlier if there is good stuff available so I can shop at Oceana.

I don't know if anyone is game for this, but perhaps when we post good deals we can give either the base or the general area so maybe we can figure out DECA Regions?

That is a great idea! I will start to post where I am located and which commissary I purchase the item at. I know there have been a couple of times where I have read about a great deal at the commisssary and order coupons for the item only to receive them and find out that none of the 4 commissaries in my region have them at the same price as quoted here. It seems mostly (to me at least) that the biggest price differences are when the quoted prices are on opposite sides of the US. I have even held onto the coupons that I ordered hoping that our area will catch up with the other regions only to not be able to use them because as you noted the price difference can be so much more that it really isn't the deal that I had bought the coupons for. I am much more cautious now and try to get to the commissary early before I order the coupons to check for myself that the price is the same here. You have a great idea!! Thanks!

I am not sure the prices even go by Regions. Scott AFB and Ft. Leonard Wood are in the same region, and have the same distributor. But they seem to have different prices on some things.

When I say "region" I don't necessarily mean geographic region. Like I said in my post. about 2 hours south of me in Virginia by Richmond the cinnamon butter is 1.19, but here in MD its 1.65 MD and VA are right next to each other. Now Belvoir is in Northern VA and their price was 1.65 as well. So me in MD is geographically closer to Ft. Lee and the price was high, and Ft. Belvoir is in the same state and their price was high as well. I wondered if DECA seperates commissaries into different regions for pricing or other reasons.

ok so its exactly what I thought...Where I am is in the blue, but borders right up against the red. So maybe instead of driving north to go to Ft. Belvoir, I will drive south to Fort Lee, since the prices most likely will be cheaper...Thanks so much for the info!

How do I figure out what zone McGuire afb is in?

Does anyone else find this wrong besides me?

I only have one commi and local stores to shop at and everything is very expensive here in NJ.
