I had a very nice conversation with Jennifer at valassis today. She emailed me a list of cities that red plum is now sending out inserts via mail instead of placing them in the newspapers.

The reason they are doing this is simple. They want deeper market penetration. They want their product in front of more eyes. Often they do not discontinue the newspaper insert, but in some cities they are ONLY available through the mail. Those cities are marked in red and with a "*".

Here are the cities currently affected:

ATLANTA, GA
CHARLOTTE, NC
CLEVELAND, OH*
ERIE, PA* (Buffalo, NY has the insert)
FITCHBURG, MA
HOUSTON, TX
INDIANAPOLIS, IN
LAS VEGAS, NV*
LEXINGTON, KY
MEMPHIS, TN*(suburban papers contain the insert)
MILWAUKEE, WI
NORFOLK - RICHMOND, VA
PHILADELPHIA, PA
PHOENIX, AZ
PITTSBURGH, PA*
PROVIDENCE, RI*
QUINCY - BROCKTON, MA

The problem with this is how are people going to get multiple inserts? I understand there are places online to buy inserts but, this is craziness. I wonder what the newspapers are going to say about this. With the ability to read the paper online now, the only reason alot of people get the newspaper is for the inserts.

I'm one that buy multiple papers every week. I hope they don't start that here. I have contacted Red Plum to get inserts sent to my home but have not received any that was 3 months ago.

Yea i agree...this isn't a good thing for people who want multiple copies!! I would recommend talking to CouponMom25 if your area has stopped receiving the redplum!!

Thanks for the info, I'm happy Detroit is not on that list.

Yet that is, I think it's safe to assume that at some point it will be everywhere. I agree it's not a good thing since we won't be able to get more than one. That will hurt not only us but everyone involved.

But on the other hand it will be less paper waste for those that get them and toss them and they end up in a landfill somewhere. Which if I heard correctly that's why they are doing it.

Why do you think you can only get one.

For instance:

1) Several people at the same address
2) Kids or friends
3) PO box
4) Work address.

I think it may be much better and easier to get several for free without having to buy papers.

This may be a good thing.
