Default How much do you save (generally)?

What is a normal percentage to save when couponing?

I shopped yesterday and will be going to kroger this morning. I am going to try to only buy something if I have a coupon, but idk how realistic that is for a beginner without many to work with. lol

Yesterday I saved around 16% at the grocery store, and 50% on Lance crackers at the dollar store. Then I bought some crackers at HEB that were on sale, but no coupon (although I looked! lol).

I am just wondering if that is normal savings, or if I can expect to save more as I get better at this.

Also, so far,

When I am shopping at the grocery stores for FOOD, real food, meaning fresh fruit/veggies, meat, dairy and all pantry items I try to get at least 50% percent.

I had a really good week this week and averaged 70% savings, but normally my savings are about 50%. As you coupon more and more your savings will get better, but keep in mind that ANY savings is good if it is on stuff that you need or would be buying anyway.

I feel that ANY savings is good! I don't know what is considered "normal" but I save at least 50% whenever I go to the store. I buy things that are on sale and that I have coupons for. Whenever something is dirt cheap, I stock up. I have quite a stock-pile built up, so I don't need to spend very much any more.

Stock up on cheap things as you are able, and you will see your overall spending go down. You said you were only going to buy what you have coupons for, just make sure you are buying things you will actually use.

Good luck!!!

Nate and Lacy (MrCoupon and MrsCoupon) and Robert and I always suggest that once you get in a comfortable groove, anywhere between 30-50% savings on average is good. It will vary for some people depending on what stores you have available and what the coupon policies are for that store. When we get 70-90%, obviously it is even better, but on average, shoot for 30-50%!

My savings are much lower at the grocery store, usually only 20-30%. The drug stores and dollar stores are usually 30-90%. Yesterday, I bought 2 double packs of degree and four Clear shampoo at Target and all I paid was tax.

some trips might only be 10% others close to 100%. It depends on several things.. biggest one for me. Am I doing a coupon run or my regular shopping.

My weekly trip to the grocery store for fresh stuff. I save 0% because I dont buy anything there except fresh foods. No packaged goods means no savings. So I have to rely on meal planning and whats on sale to stay within budget
