Default old blue mason jars

so i found some really old blue mason jars at an estate sale recently and got them dirt cheap. before i start trying to do anything somewhat crafty, or just put them on a shelf with flowers or with my other "collection" of milk bottles/jars, how do i find out if they are worth any thing? i did a search on line and can't really find any pics of the one's i have? any one know about these or have suggestions on where to look? and second question..what are some really cool "country" looking ideas that i can do to spruce up my bottle collection without ruining them or taking away from their beauty? thanks!!

I love mason jars. Sounds like you found some really nice ones. I only have clear ones. I love the authentic look of them and just leave as they are. There is an antique show on PBS that shows collectibles and rare finds. Possibly you contact an antique dealer in town or online to find a value.

I just noticed online that one can paint them with a special coating (glass paint), I didn't notice that until just now. Here a link I saw...

DIY Blue Mason Jars | Ramshackle Glam

Not sure if yours look like that or not, though.
Most of the pictures I viewed just had flowers in them. I did see them made into soap or lotion dispensers and even a lighting fixture that was really cool.

mine are old and blue. i got them at an estate sale of a woman who was in her 90's. i did some research on them and i have a bunch of the different "ball" mason jars, and one in particular that the bottom is not completely flat and just says "mason" on it with no date or other markings. most of them are 2L jars, i even have one from a "cleveland juice" company that is misspelled! they all look pretty old and really neat! thanks for the ideas!

I just ask my daycare mom LOL we live in Muncie Indiana home of Ball brothers or maker of Ball jars and she works for them. I used to have a really good value guide. Let me see if I can find it. There should be numbers on the bottom. If you have quart jars look for number 13 it is worth more than the others, but I forget why. Let me do some digging and see if I can find it.

Also redbookjars.com sells a book on value and pricing for fruit Jars / mason jars. You might be able to rent the redbook from your local library.

i already saw this, but two of my jars aren't even on this list, lol. i am thinking of just using half to decorate, and putting the rest on my shelf in the kitchen--i didn't buy them to make money off of, but a girl at work told me they could be worth something. so i figured if i could sell one or two, i could put it towards the kids expenses (one in college, one a senior in high school, lol) thanks for all the help!

After digging everywhere I cant find that value book. I have a feeling my aunt has it. My daycare mother is doing some looking also to see if they have anything at the plant.
