Default Coupon policy not honored

After spending time getting my items yesterday, I went to check out and the cashier said that they were no longer taking coupons over the item amount. I was upset. I am very careful to follow all policies (including pg coupon policies). The manager confirmed with the cashier, despite the fact that I had a copy of the Target policy in my hand. Has there been a change in policy?

My target hasn't give overage since they opened years ago. They always marked the price down if the coupon was over the amount of the price

I asked them one day why they are different than the other stores and they said it can vary between stores.

From my shopping experiences @ Target, I get better results just sticking to tried and tested cashiers than calling/writing corporate, where I don't get any results. Even calling the store manager is a waste of time for me because I found out nothing has changed with same difficult cashiers.

Therefore, I don't call, I just choose cashiers or if they're not working, I have better luck checking out @ CS booth so I go there.

Not getting overage is no biggie for me...but refusing my coupon is a big deal. I hate that I spent so much time double checking my purchases only to have to leave them in the store.

There hasn't been any changes in policy to the best of my knowledge. The cashier should have taken the coupon and adjusted it to match the price of the item if necessary. I'm sorry you had a negative experience. Is there another Target nearby that you might be able to shop at?

No, all of my targets are 30 min away. I had made a special trip. However, my CVS is heaven. I will just have to focus my couponing on drugstores

I'm with you carrie. No target within 50 fifty miles, but 2 super awesome CVSs (opposite directions but still), I also have a rite aid , but I am scared to try them.

I don't think that I get the overage on purpose form the cashier, they just don't pay attention. If I get for example, nail polish that is .99 and have a coupon for a $1, then a screen pops up, not sure what it says, but the cashier will check the bag, verify I got it, shrug and "K1" it. So I get the extra penny. Now I know why it is questioning the coupon, in the beginning I didn't. But I let it slide right on through. I wouldn't mind not getting the overage either, I would be ticked if they rejected it. I will have to pay attention to what the screen says next time so I can walk a cashier through it, or at least have a leg tot stand on if I am in that position.
