Help Our church in need

HI everyone. I just thought I would post this and see how this goes. Our Pastor announced in church that our church is out of cleaning supplies and since we don't have that many in attendance, then they need help to meet the need. Well, the Pastor's wife and I talked about this before. They know that I do coupons. I thought maybe if I post this then maybe I could get help with this. I want to plan a haul for them and try to see if I can get everything cheap or next to nothing or free. I've seen people do this on tv and online, now I want to try to do the same thing. Does anyone know where I could get the very best deals on cleaning supplies and paper products? We have a Walmart, Kroger, CVS, Rite Aid, Deals, Dollar Tree, Walgreens, IGA, Save A Lot, Dollar General, Big Lots, and a Save A Lot. We also have KMart & Target. Tomorrow my daughter and I are going to go to the local paper dumpster to see if we can get papers with inserts. I may even take a trip to our newspaper place to see if they have any to give me. What do you think? If you can help or have any tips or ideas on this, then let me know.

I am not sure of any cleaning supply deals that are coming up, but I sure hope our WUCkies can help you find some.

I agree, cleaning supply coupons are not that common, nor typically found on special. Maybe you could suggest that each member of the church sign up to bring one cleaning item, whatever would fit in their budget. I'm sure most people could do that.

Well that depends on what cleaning supplies you want. Because that is a general question.

My first question is
Does the church have a new's letter they mail out to the member's each week or monthly?
Do they have a weekly prayer group or other group that meet's at the church on another day but Sunday?

Maybe one of these groups can help by Researching sales, & make a list

They should start there put in the new's letter a list of cleaning supplies needed.
Place a Box somewhere in the church for these supplies to be placed. Hopefully in a public area so everyone can see the box. Like they do when collecting Christmas gifts or other items.

Also in the new's letter make a Note to those who get the Sunday paper!
For those who take the Sunday paper & do Not use the Coupons in side of them Please drop them in the box on the table, we are needing them, ect.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
the list should include :

cloth napkins, stained cloth Baby diapers, regular & stained dish towels or cleaning rags & unmated/lost loose socks
plastic grocery bags/you carry your grocery's home in
All types of Sponges
broom, dustpan, mop, bucket--IF needed
Vacuum cleaner bags - type & size or what kind of Vacuum
dish washing liquid
20 mule team borax
ammonia
vinegar
baking soda
hydrogen peroxide
food coloring
bleach
lemon juice
cornstarch
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

cloth napkins, stained cloth Baby diapers, regular & stained regular dish towels or cleaning rags & unmated/lost loose socks == All can be used to Dust & clean

plastic grocery bags/you carry your grocery's home in = can be used in all the small trash can's around the church.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
Glass Cleaner
I used this to clean the Glass on the fire place door's after they had cooled down from the daily winter fire we would have at our house.

Get your streak-free on with a pocket change investment and a little help from your kitchen pantry.

2 TBSP cornstarch
1/2 cup household ammonia or rubbing alcohol (not both at the same time)
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 gallon warm water
Add: 3 TBS lemon juice or (freshly squeezed lemon juice) for a fresh smell (optional)
Add: food coloring to note a cleaning solution(optional)

Mix the ingredients in a bucket, make sure cornstarch is thoroughly dissolved before using. Store in spray bottles: (will also work on mirrors)
Note** Use news paper for a streak shine! I don't know why it works I just know it works.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
Toilet Cleaning
Here is what you’re going to need:

1 cup baking soda (cleans, deodorizes, softens water, scours)
1 cup white vinegar (cuts grease, removes mildew, odors, some stains and wax build-up)
When the bubbling has subsided, scrub the toilet with a toilet brush. Leave the vinegar and baking soda in the toilet for a few hours or even overnight.

You have just cleaned your toilet bowl for PENNIES and without ANY chemicals.

Note**
Put a Brick or 2 in the bathroom Toilet tank - this actually cut's down on wasting water.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
For the sink

Soft scrub substitute
1/4 cup of baking soda in a small glass bowl and squirt in hydrogen peroxide until it makes a nice paste. Then I rub it on the offending dirt/stain/grease…whatever! I usually just use my fingers…but I also use a small sponge at times as well.if it is real Yucky let it set 30 minutes. Then I use an old toothbrush. I never tried it on stone but it works on everything else.

Note**Bathroom mold: Mold in bathroom tile grout is a common problem and can be a health concern. Mix one part hydrogen peroxide (3%) with two parts water in a spray bottle and spray on areas with mold. Wait at least one hour before rinsing or using shower.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Carpet

To get melted candle wax out of the carpet, place a brown paper bag over the hardened wax, heat up your iron, and "iron" the paper bag, careful not to touch the iron to the carpet. The bag soaks up the melted wax like a charm!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
For the Extra dirty
HEAVY-DUTY DISINFECTANT CLEANER

1/4 cup powdered laundry detergent
1 tablespoon borax
3/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup pine oil, or pine-based cleaner
Slowly stir the detergent and borax into the water to dissolve. Add the pine oil (available at hardware stores and supermarkets) and mix well. For bathroom cleaning, use the mixture full strength. In the kitchen, dilute it with water.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WOOD FLOOR POLISH

1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil Mix the ingredients well, rub on the floor, and buff with a clean, dry cloth.
Note** I did this in the military in old WWII barracks I lived in when I was in the military
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +

Just an idea...
Could you have a dinner in your church for a fundraiser? You could coupon for most of the cost for the dinner and open it to the public for a free will donation. You then can take that money and use it for the church.

Idea1 Fundraising

Before I retired, I did Event party planning, golf tournaments, corporate events and Fundraisers.
One of the things I did was contacting area retail managers for corporate donations.
Find out the contact managers name of the local retail store. Write a letter requesting
the donation. Set up a 5 minute meeting to meet with the manager to present the letter and how to request donations for local or corporate chain.
dress professional for a business meeting, be prepared to hear No.
You may hear no as the answer, but for every no you get, there are many folks out there that will say yes and genuinely want to help. Whether it is a direct request for cleaning supplies, or supplies for a church social/ spaghetti supper fundraiser,
state the items needed in the letter and that any of the items donated would be helpful to The local community.
It is a chance for the retailer to give back to the community and patrons of their stores.
As one of the posters suggested, Organizing a fundraiser dinner is a great idea.
And in this economy, families are looking for affordable options for dining out and entertainment. It could also be a opportunity to present the church / open up to new memberships to families. A win/win situation.
Church members could be assigned to bring X amount of the desserts, another group bring the salads. Then others bring etc. beverages, spaghetti, meat sauce.
Assignments of what to bring could be done alphabetical by last names.
Include advertising for the fundraisers thru local news outlets and newspapers.
Include a gift basket silent auction with the dinner for extra $.
Each family at church could contribute an item for the gift basket(s).
My church has a chili supper in the fall for the youth services. All families are asked to cook several pots of chili, and once it gets to the cafeteria kitchen, all the chili gets mixed together. surprisingly enough, its the best chili ever! No one family is put out by preparing a large workload of meals yet we make money to support youth programs in the process.
Btw, in my locale spring cleaning supplies go on sale March- April. it is a seasonal type of sale. Perhaps your area has the same type of sales. You have a good heart and that
is a good start, good luck on your fundraiser and keep the Wuckies posted!

Shhhh! Be va-wee, va-wee quiet. Dee is shopping for bargains!

Well I give up. I got so much negative feedback and kickbacks on this that I've decided not to do it. My decision is not based on WUC. And if I ever do a donation I will do so on my own and secretly. No one will ever know. I just thought I was doing something good but I guess not. Thanks to everyone here for the tips and suggestions.

Sorry your getting negative feed back from your church. You should go back to the preacher's wife and tell her & him when the Church bathroom run's out of toilet paper, Don't bother to replace it for a month. When the parishioners ask about it tell them you don't have & they will have to bring there's from home. When the Church start's to look like it needs cleaning and they ask about it just tell them you have no cleaning supplies,
We did this at one of the churches I attended year's ago. When the ladies began to complain I spoke up and said are you to cheep to bring in a package of torlet paper?
When the bathroom & other room's got visibly dirty they just told them they couldn't afford all the supplies & keep the bills paid, somethings had to be sacrificed. You want a Cold Dark Church or a dirty unkempt church? They finally started bringing in the needed supplies. There was a list put in the monthly new's letter to the members.

Good luck in your endeavor
