don't be ... it was of the scariest places....i have so many scary stories about that place....
It was way to expensive to fly direct from London to St. Petersburg, so I took a cheap airline called Ryan Air to Finland. But not to the capital to some city I had never heard of. I stayed in a hostel and the next morning got on a train to St. Petersburg. Well when the train got to the border with Russia, big armed russian guards boarded the train. When they saw that I was an American, they started speaking to me in Russian. I obviously had no idea what they were saying, but got a little worried. They stormed off....WITH MY PASSPORT!!! I thinking okay they will be back any minute. When the train left the border station I was like, 'oh no!! I'm in Russia without a passport!!!!' I couldn't find anyone who spoke any English....and really thought I was in some deep do-do!!
When the train arrived in St. Petersburg, an armed guard came and said...."you stay here". I thought, 'Oh God, I'm going to a prison never to be seen or heard from again!!!'. He guarded the door to my train compartment, and after about 20 minutes another guard came and gave me back my passport and said I could go!!!
I got off that train so fast

!!!
There are lots of other scary stories. I travel in Russia by myself...which in hindsight wasn't the smartest thing to do. I also traveled the cheapest way possible...which was unavoidable!!!
