I absolutely LOVE my FoodSaver! Just wondering who else has one and what your best uses for it are... I use mine mostly for freezing meats, veggies, and cheese...but I'm ready to expand my horizons!

I love, love, love, love, love, love, love mine. Maybe even more than that!
Actually I'm on my second one, I wore the first one out. I use it for freezing anything that can be frozen. Last weekend I froze a bunch of chicken, meat and even several pounds of butter. You never have to worry about anything going to waste because of freezer burn, that claim is absolutely true! Oh, I also have a dehydrator that I use to dry my own sundried tomatoes, beef jerky etc. After its dried I seal it up in portions using my Food Saver too. |

Moggy, is it hard to do the jerky? My hubby would love that, but I don't want to get another appliance that ends up in the yard sale.
I love dried fruit, too. Do you make that in your dehydrator?moonflower - what is it that you don't like about the Foodsaver?? |

I was just thinking about making a batch of jerky and thought I had seen it mentioned here somewhere. It is not hard at all to make beef jerky. I have a step by step recipe with photographs posted at this link
Homemade Beef Jerky (with how-to photos) | Gather I have never done fruit (not yet anyway) but I do sundried tomatoes using it and if I have an over abundance of fresh herbs I sometimes give them a little head start by drying them for an hour or so before hanging them. |

I have a food saver. I make leftover "tv dinners" for dh to take to work. I have also froze soup in bowls and then taken them out and sealed them, then they can be boiled/microwaved right in the bag. I use it for meat to freeze....and I also have used it to seal up bags of french fries
It is a handy machine, imo. I also have a food dehydrator. We have been talking about making the beef jerky in the Price Chopper forum because they have been having great deals on London Broils and that is what I use to make the jerky. |

WOW Loved the pics...looks exactly like what I do, except I buy the jerky works from walmart with the cure, and I add teriyaki, and worchestshire sauce to mine. I wish I could use the food saver to store this but at my house it doesn't last for long. My DS can hardly wait for it to come off the dehydrator, OH Wait, he doesn't wait ![]() |

Doodlebug, I have 2 dehydrators and extra trays so I usually make a double batch of about 6 lbs of meat at a time. I have to make batches back to back because my S.O. sends it to his family back in WV as Christmas presents and he loves to share with all his friends. That's the only reason I seal a meal it. We put what we keep in a mason jar and its usually gone in a few days too.
I don't have any growing boys around to worry about. |

Oh one other good thing about freezing stuff in the seal a meal...if you forgot to take something out of the freezer for dinner you just grab a bag of whatever you have frozen and float it in the sink with cold water and it'll be defrosted in no time. Its very handy since usually the last thing on my mind at 6 a.m. before I go to work, is what I plan on cooking for dinner.

How much would you be selling it for??? I have been wanting a food saver for so long, I haven't taken the plunge yet.
my DH likes to fish, and I like it to stay fresh! Also I think it will come in handy with my upcoming gastric bypass surgery. |
