Just wanted to share some garden pics with y'all
Our Herb Garden (pics take in July of 2008). It's a lot fuller looking now. I'll have to get a more recent pic of it
This is our herb garden which is in the middle of our circle driveway. They used to be a "birdcage trellis" in the middle which roses grew up but some of the roses died out and the trellis fell apart. LOL So we removed that and just put in new roses. This picture was taken just a few days prior to us adding in the new roses and a few new herbs and a couple of flowers.
These were the herbs that were growing in the garden at the time of the pictures (some survived and others didn't)
Some of the herbs can be used in cooking (E = Edible), others are good for medicinal purposes (M). The E and M at the end below is the coding for you.

- lemon mint (E)
- French Tarragon (E)
- Parsley (E)
- Feverfew (M)
- chamomile (M but you can use the petals to make a rinse for blonde hair)
- Feather plant (aka Rooster Comb) = flower - bought on clearance for .25 a pack at Lowe's. They'll probably end up getting transplanted in a few days. (not E or M just lovely to look at)
- Swiss Chard that was given to me (will transplant these to the main garden in a day or two once the remaining two raised rows are put in) (E)
- lime mint (E)
- chives (E)
- peppermint (E)

- another Rosemary plant (E)
- purple basil (E)
- Basil (E)
- Caraway (E)
Rose petals can be eaten. I've made rose petal jam from them before. The only one of us who liked it though was the 7 year old. LOL The rest of us said it was too perfumed. Hubby said it was like eating a jar of perfume. Other than that, it had a sweet taste.
This WAS our raised beds area that is now non-existing except for the bed you see on the lower left of the picture (that's the asparagus).
This was the main garden in 2008 prior to being fully planted:
and our garden last year:
Our grapes: We have 24 Concord grape vines growing.
These need supports built for them. Hubby has the stuff to build them just hasn't had the time. He won't let me near power tools. He says I'm too accident prone.
Back in the distance to the right there is where our apple and peach trees are now. We also have 7 (I think) plum trees lining one side of our driveway (side near the front yard)
And this is the start of our mini orchard. We had 6 young Cherry Trees growing here but dh ran one over with the riding mower before he knew what he did. grrr.
This was p
osted the other day but I want to put them altogether so you could see the progress tht has been made from just 2 years ago... it's a slow going process but we get there as time permits and materials are available.
This all was done this past Saturday 4/10 and we hope to get i all done this Spring (or at least this year. lol)
Fencing made from recycled, extra long pallets from hubby’s jobsite. The opening will be a gate once we have it all completed. The garden will have 3 gates total… one on each end and one on the front.
raised bed made from free rough sawed lumber which still some bark on it and is imperfect (notice the wavy edges). This is one of the garlic beds. I have more there in the background that needs to be moved later into this bed in the fall so for now will put something else in here with the garlic. We need to cut that piece of wood off that is sticking out there.
How the beds in the main garden looked previously – raised rows. Along the side of the fence there is a raised bed to grow lettuce and cool weather veggies as it gets a lot of shade in late afternoon.
My one remaining rhubarb plant. At one time I had 5 but they were in another raised bed with poor soil. The survivor is loving it’s new home near the compost bin. The square bed was a freebie salvaged from a jobsite of hubby’s.
Our compost bin made from 3 recycled (free) pallets. The wood crates beside it were also free from a jobsite and we’ve just not decided what to do with them yet. You can see the run to the chicken coop there in the right background area.
The main entrance to the garden. The big square bed there will eventually be a three layered tier for a strawberry bed and there will be paths around it. The bed in the background is a square foot gardening bed for onions. Egyptian Walking Onions are up nice and big in one of the squares.
This is a picture of the pallet we haven’t put up in the fence yet. It’s about twice the size of a regular pallet.
This is the lower end of the garden where we have yet to finish the fence. Hubby will bring home more pallets in the net couple of days that we can finish this with. We need approx. 3 more to finish the fence. Not sure you can see them there along the left hand side but that’s where we have 3 highbush blueberries growing.
