Default Homemade Drain Opener

from my blog post:Homemade Drain Opener

Drain Opener

1 cup baking soda
1 cup salt
1/2 cup white vinegar
kettle of boiling water

Pour baking soda, salt and vinegar into the drain. Wait about 15 minutes for these to dissolve the "clog". Flush drain thoroughly with the kettle of boiling water.

Zaycon foods sells boxes of chicken, fish, kielbasa, hot dogs, bacon, fruit and more (sales at certain time of year for your area. - Sign up is free to see when the sales are!). Signature and posts may contain affiliate links.

This works GREAT. I didnt use salt, but i poured almost an entire box (the small ones) of baking soda down the drain, then poured the vinegar a few cups at a time down the drain till the "foaming" stopped, and then a pot full of boiling water. I have been having problems with my garbage disposal for awhile. Its older, and probably needs replaced, but have tried a million types of drain openers that are safe for garbage disposals and this worked better than ANY of them. My husband was amazed!

I use this as well for my drains (minus the salt). It works like a charm. An no need to throw out those boxes from the fridge and freezer because I just use them for the drains.

I do this too. What does adding the salt do?

Yep it works like an abrasive.

Just like mixing baking soda, salt, and lemon juice to clean pots and pans, it works to "scrub" out any burnt on food or stains.

Thanks for this! I use vinegar for A LOT of my household cleaning (works as fabric softner too - just add a little conditioner with the vinegar - use a downy ball if you don't have an HE machine).
