I always add more to my batch that I make, my husband does not like the laundry soap, it is not strong for him, I tell him to bad I am not spending money on laundry soap so he deals with it. I do a batch and a half.

Now I could be totally wrong on this as I didn't get my recipe from the duggers recipe but i have found most are the same 4 ingredients: borax, washing soda, bar of soap, and water. I found the recipe i use on thesimpledollar.com. I made my first batch with dove and it was super slimy. I made my next batch with ivory and it isn't as slimy. Made them the exact same way and they both sat overnight per the recipe instructions. So it may vary depending on the soap you use.

Like I said I could be totally wrong as I have never even seen the duggers recipe but I hope this helps you!

I don't think you need to do anything to it. If it has the same amount of ingredients, the thickness isn't going to matter. It will all dissolve in the wash anyway. Just make sure to stir it.

I always use Fels Naphtha and have gotten different consistencies with the same amount of ingredients. I think the thickness has something to do with the temperature or time spent melting the soap.

When I make mine it is never very thick always pretty watery. It works fine for us. I read somewhere a while back that depending on the weather it is differ in consistency, not sure why.

Well it does work fine. I think Loaslaen is right. It must be the chemicle reaction with the heat. I don't think i meltes my soap as good as i should have. Next time I am going to use irish spring and the fels.
