Last night i went to Pennys to get a couple things and when I went to check out the lady pulled out a thick cell phone. I thought she was on her phone right in front of me! I told her that theyre getting in less and less merchandise. Then she used the phone to scan the bar code on the tag!!!! So now we know why theyre getting cheap all of a sudden. Lol. The cashier explained to me that they have these new "portable registers", they can even swipe your credit cards on them. She went on to explain that it was for busy days and if they had lines then they could check us out any where in the store. The downside? They have to go to a register to get the receipt, or if you pay with cash, or if you actually want your things in a bag. The cashier went on to tell me that it makes no sense and that the company needs to invest in back packs so they could carry everything they need around. I just thought I would let yall know what's going on. Anyone elses store doing this?

Yes at Christmas time I went with my mil to a jcpenny that was a free standing one ( not in the malls) and they were doing that. I am not happy with that at all. When I go to that penny's now it will be cash only

Every store is going to the libby(thats what it is called, it is an iphone with a register attached to it) eventually. Most stores have at least 10 of them in use at all times and more in the future. There will no longer be registers at every door. You will be able to check yourself out or have an associate who is on the floor ring you out. The libby is just in "testing" right now. Once more stores are ready to go, the cash function and other functions will be turned on to be used.

Always ISO BTFE's and CLFE's

This happened the last time I was in there. We get to the register and she whips out this phone and starts scanning. Then she swiped my card thru it. I had no idea what she was doing. To be honest I thought she was using her personal cellphone which I was not comfortable with. They could have posted signs or said something like "this is a new system we are trying out" so customers won't get freaked out.
