We just got power back last night here in Greenup CO. KY. We left here on Friday and went to my MIL's in Mingo Co. WV, and stayed with her through today. When we got home, the temp was 91 in our house. We lost ALL of our groceries in the fridge and both freezers, so I am getting ready to go to Kroger now to fill the freezers and fridge back up!! I am so sick of pizza, it definitely WON'T be on the shopping list!!! LOL!!

We lost power for several days, in fact the surrounding towns still have no power. I live in the middle of nowhere and have no idea how I was so blessed to get my pwer back. It is so sad to drive thru town and see the trees and lines down everywhere.

I have been blessed with power since the storm but many of my friends and neighbors across the street have not. Booone county WV was hit so hard that they are predicting that it will be weeks before everyone's power is restored!!! The food pantry is screaming for water and ready to eat foods. (A lot of people have a well and need power to use the water.)

If anyone knows of deals for ready to eat foods i will gladly purchase them to take to the shelters. We have a krogers (that doubles up to 50 cents), target, dollar general, family dollar, target, foodfair, foodland, kmart, and of course walmart.

Thanks in advance for everyone's suggestions!

The longest I've ever had to do without power has been 24 hours. I used to live in KY and have endured my time in the basement during storms. I hope you all get your power back sooner rather than later.

We have had at least one storm a day here (Georgia). It comes quick, it's loud and then leaves. It just rained here less than 30 minutes ago and now it's almost dry.

If you have well water then it does take electricity to pump up the water. If we are in for a big storm we fill the tub in case we lose power for an extended timeframe. We is this water for what ever we need including flushing.

i lost power for days as well, I lost everything in my fridge & freezer to, i dont know how I am going to restock them, that was definetly not in my budget, but I would love to get a generator to as soon as I can save up for one, the local stores are still trying to restock so somethings are still hard to find, & gas & ice & water were the biggest things that people were having trouble getting, I know I personally waited for 3.5 hours in almost 100 degree temps, just to get gas, local gas stations in some areas are still having issues with keep gas filled. they say it could be the 8th before power is restored in some areas here, but where some of my other family live they were told as late at the 14th.

My whole area is on water wells or cisterns and it was hard to make people understand that when we don't have power, we don't have water. Thankfully, my power was only out for about 15 hours but at 95 degrees you suffer quite a bit. My dad was without power for 4 days and my sister is still without electricity and phone.

See if your home owners insurance will cover the loss of food. Most do.

Lots of insurance won't cover storms like this unless it is a "named" windstorm. And Derecho is not a named storm.
