2012 is another disaster movie from the makers of "Independence Day". As with other disaster films, you need to be able to cast aside a certain level of facts and intelligence until the film is over. With this one, that level is your entire brain. The film wants you to just sit there and enjoy the special effects. The problem is that it has absolutely no plot. The film stars John Cusack as Jackson Curtis (a divorced father who is trying to get closer to his kids) by taking them camping in Yellowstone. After that, the film wants you to throw away all facts and science as it weaves a very thin plot together to show people trying to survive the end of the world. Throw-in lots of good special effects and some weak government against the common man plot angle, and you got yourself a blockbuster! Woo-dogie!!
Obviously, I thought it was very weak and I could not get past the absurdity of the plot. The effects are good, but this film makes "Independence Day" look like "The Godfather". Effects - "A". Plot - "F". Acting - Nonexistent. Memorable? - not even close. Overall a disaster of a film. Worthy of a look if you have absolutely nothing to do and want to waste 10 dollars and 3 hours. My rating - "F". |

I like your reviews! Thanks for sharing. Have you seen The Christmas Carol yet? The new one with Jim Carrey?

You're very welcome, and thanks for reading them. No, I have not seen "A Christmas Carol" yet. We have advance screenings here in Memphis, but that one did not have an advance showing.

My dd works at a theatre and said that this was THE movie that everyone was coming to see tonight. Sounds like it won't be around for long though. Thanks for the review!

I have to sort of disagree with your critique. It was a little thin in areas. It is definitely not going to win any oscars, but I found it entertaining. However it was also predictable. My husband and I don't get out often and I enjoyed the movie. I guess I would recommend getting it on netflix or red box when it comes out if you don't want to spend the money. and it was 2.5 hours, not 3 unless you are counting the time waiting for the movie to start.

Yes, I am counting the entire time to watch the movie, which includes going to the theater, buying tickets, waiting for the film to start, and previews. Then you waste 3 hours total. I would rather be getting coupons or shopping during that time. And, if you are into just effects without a good story, the film can be entertaining. But for my $10, I want something more than that.

Dh took me to see this Friday night. We actually liked the movie but it did jump around a little too much in the plot. It was way better than the Men Who Stare at Goats movie that we went too just prior to this one. We caught a back to back movie for my birthday. The Men Who Stare at Goats movie looked to be funny in the previews but it was stupid!
