ok, the deal is my mom was married to my 1/2 sisters dad for 18 years. He was the most verbally abusive person on this earth but was never to ds. My brother and I had to find another home because he did not want us there but by the time mom found out she was pregnate with little sister. Mom stayed until sister turned 18. There is 13 years diffence in our ages. Fast forward 36 years. I do not bear a grudge and I know motivations of what happened all those years but the problem is my sister is now acting like her dad toward mom. She is being verbally abusive saying thinks like you are crazy, you are so stupid. You don't have sense enough to manage your money because you are a nut case.
Mom called me yesterday to say that she would never go with sister again on road trip. She had ridden with sister to see brother which is 10 hours away because we have all been worried about an 80 year old woman on the road alone. mom said it was so bad that she was barked at if she opened her mouth that she had decided to fly back home but brother had begged her to just ride back and save her money. The entire time she at brothers house sister in law intervened. Must have been bad. I don't intend to talk with my brother about this long story short. My sister is a very into the Christian persona, very upstanding in her church and Sunday School. If the door is open at church she is there kinda thing. I think the only think that would work is for me to send her passages from the bible such as we should honor our father and our mothers. Anyone have any others that I can include in my letter than I plan to write. working my magic on very little money

This is the one that first came to mind
Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Gal 6:2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 1 Peter 2:17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king. 1 Thess. 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up Hope some of these help. |

I have to say I absolutely agree with this. If she treats her mother this way while espousing hyperreligious attitudes, she definitely is not going to take any advice from you. Just do the best you can to support your mom in her decisions.

I responded that: I just try to keep in mind that I will be old one day and probably just like her (you too). Treat her as you want to be treated by your son.

See like I always tell people, PLEASE do not judge Christ by the actions of Christians. What I mean is that first we are all human and we will fall short. If you are truly a Christ follower, you will be doing more serving and loving, than being critical and cruel. Those attributes of Christ are what your sister should be showering on your precious Mother. The scriptures quoted are awesome. Your sister obviously has decided to pick and choose parts of the Bible she chooses to believe and follow. You definitely can send her those scriptures, and MAYBE she will chose to research them for herself. She may or may not. But you have at least "planted the seed" so to speak. Your sister needs prayer, she definitely should not be treating your Mother that way PERIOD!

The sad thing is that there are so many of us who would give anything just to have one more day with our mothers...

You are right it definitely can backfire. I know what its like to watch a family go through stuff like this. Something just rises up inside of you when others mistreat your Mother (or Father) You want to protect them, especially when its your own sibling's . I agree, talk with you Mom first.

Sorry op, I had to address this post specifically. We have to deal with our conscience and the equal/opposite consequences of our behavior.
