My mom just got offered a job at Sears cause she was helping the lady bag her stufff. Mom lives in Mass and she was with me in NC so she declined LOL but lady told her it was seasonal help. So maybe you might want to try to just pick up a sesonal job and maybe it will become permanient after xmas.

I called DG again, no manager there. The cashier said she only came in for a few hours today
So I missed her, but I left a message for her to call me about a job. And I got my application from Rite Aid, and filled it out. |

Good Luck Cathleen, I am kind of in the same boat, except that I don't have to work unless I want to move out of this tiny house(which I do want to move out). My problem is I have to get a job that will pay for daycare for 2 kids plus some bring home money, which will be hard to find.

As a restaurant manager (who is in charge of hiring), here are a few tips:
1. Know when you are calling or stopping by and how that relates to their business. I.E. DO NOT CALL a restaurant from 11am - 2 pm! My BIGGEST pet peeve! I'm sure places like grocery stores probably get busy just after 5pm (when people get off of work), etc. NO ONE will have time to talk about hiring when they are busy, and will even be annoyed. 2. Be persistent. Trust me, EVERYONE I interview "really needs a job", etc., yet some don't last. I have a day set up that I do "open interviews" every week, whether I need to hire or not. I then ask the people to check back on day X at time Y. This is test #1 to see if the "really need a job" and if they can follow directions. The people that do call when I ask, each time, get more consideration. 3. Give your application to the HIRING MANAGER ONLY. If they are not in, ask when they will be available. This will give them time to look at you, look at the application, and ask quick questions for more information. (Sometimes I find something not filled out on the application, etc.) 4. Come to the interview like you "really need a job". I'm not saying you don't, but you would be surprised what people come to interviews looking like! Look around the store at what people ALREADY working there look like. Look at jewelry, hair, etc. If jewelry is light (especially hoop earrings, necklaces, etc.), look like them. Pull your hair back (if you have long hair), remove the nail polish (usually restaurants, but check other places), keep jewelry to a minimum. This way the person doesn't think those things will "be an issue". Usually only 1 pair of earrings can be worn, and usually only the post type, no dangles or hoops. Most places you can't wear a necklace or it has to be tucked in the shirt and not visible. HTH |

I know you love animals. Are any veterinarian clinics near you hiring? Have you checked out Craigslist? What about taking a civil service test to maybe work at the post office? Lots of luck!

My dad use to do the hiring at Mcdoanlds, so I know i have to take out the lip ring, and bar in my ear, wear my hair down, etc.
Trust me, I use to help my dad with the hiring, we had one woman come in with slippers and curlers in her hair....she even asked if she got free food for coming in for the interview.... |

Depending on your transportation, I gather you are in a rural area, consider expanding your work search to 30 or 40 mile radius if there are any other places. May seem too far, yet better to drive 30 - 40 min each way than be unemployed for extended period.
Check with county or state job assistance programs (unemployment). You may or may not qualify for cash unemployment benifits, but still have the right to access to the job boards. They may even set you up with some job training programs. Don't rule out supplementing a job with other opportunities that might be available, as those listed above or such as pet sitting, creating one of a kind holiday crafts for the upcomming holiday season, baking pies & cakes etc...Ask yourself...What are you good at? Best of luck!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
