OAMC on a Dime
I just wanted to share some "strategies" I've figured out for batch cooking with little money. They're pretty simple and mostly just common sense, but I figured I'd share anyway!
1.) Chicken Thighs - bought on sale from $0.59 - $0.77/lb. Cook in crockpot on Low for ~6hrs with basic seasonings and onion. Strain the liquid and save to freeze as stock. Pull out bones and skin, then turn chicken into chicken salad sandwiches for the week or freeze as is for various future meals.
2.) Pork Shoulder - bought on sale from $0.99 - $1.29/lb. Cook in crockpot on Low for ~6hrs with basic seasonings and onion. Turn into pulled pork for dinner/lunches or freeze as is and use in future meals.
3.) Ground Turkey - bought on sale or normal price $1.00 - $1.49/lb. Form meatloafs with plenty of spices, onion & bell pepper, or saute with italian seasonings for future sauces/pasta dishes.
*EDIT: As the helpful posters below note, it's good to check with the meat department on what time they do meat markdowns - times vary from store to store.
Hope this helps!
