Default July Donation Drive - Animal Shelters

I'll be contacting local shelters to get an idea of what items they want/need most.

In the meantime, since I've heard that most take newspapers for the kennels, I'll be saving up my newspapers and pet food coupons.

At the very least I'll be giving them all the pet coupons, for their use, or to have in a basket to offer to people adopting pets.

I'll also be watching out for GDA's on pet items between now and July to donate - and ask that you do the same.

I never knew that about the newspapers! That's great!

Anyone who has a Food Lion or another store where you can use a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale and get both products for free should definitely keep this drive in mind! Especially if you don't have a pet, here's your chance to put all those pet food/treat coupons to good use.

Can I make a suggestion? The animal shelter gets over run with donations. However, as a board member of a non-profit breed specific rescue group - Look in your area for rescue groups. If they are a non-profit group like mine they can always use help and it is still tax deductible for you.

Some other things to consider donating:
Old quilts, bedspreads, & blankets to be used for animal bedding (these can be stained, slightly ripped etc... - the animals don't mind)
Stuffed animals without beans or pellets (just poly fiber filled)
Used soccer balls, basketballs (great toys for dogs)
Crates
Leashes and collars
Animal brushes and combs
Animal shampoo
Used baby mattresses with baby sheets (makes a great bed for a larger dog)

Just some ideas!

My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am. ~Author Unknown

a few months ago I used the goodlife coupons and was able to pick up about $100 worth of cat and puppy food , then me and my boys took it to our local shelters. My boys are 2 and 3 yrs old and they were soooo proud to help out those animals that needed help!!!

Being a TASTEFULLY SIMPLE consultant and using coupons is going to help my kids meet Mickey!

I am so happy to see this. I have stocked up on my kitten so we are going to take some to the animal shelter but I also decided to give of some time. I don't know if they do here so I plan on calling before all happen with my Dad to see if we can do it here. They have so many dogs that don't get attention and lot of walking time with them having so many they just don't have the time and well my kids and I love walking and playing with them so we give our time. We have not done that since we moved here as well it been one thing after another but had just told hubby Sunday that I was going to call to see if they would allow us to do it here. We love going a few hours well we plan on a few hours and usually stay a lot longer and spend time with a couple dogs walking and playing with them. Just a thought if others have the time it a Great thing to do you and the dog will love it.

I believe in Santa!

We volunteer at our Humane Society and my roomy is a Kennel Tech. They can always use an extra set of hands to walk dogs and play with kitties Newspaper is always needed. Ours never turns a donation down. We have a very small, very under funded shelter They actually were 2nd or 3rd on the Zootoo.com makeover. My friend says they operate n $1500 a month. When you consider the volume of animals they deal with, that is incredibly low Poor furbabies!

One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. -Proverbs 11:24-25

I donate to my local shelter a lot and the things they seem to be most excited about are paper towel, garbage bags and cleaning products. They say walmart donates all of their opened bags of food and litter, but that they don't often get donations of cleaning products. This is what else is on their wishlist which may help give you some ideas.

The shelter cares for and prepares for the adoption of over 5,000 pets a year.
It takes an unbelievable amount of equipment and supplies to run a facility that adopts and cares for over 5000 pets a year.
Take a look at our wish list for items that we especially need to run daily operations.

Cleaning Supplies Wish List

Liquid laundry soap and dish soap
Paper Towels
Spray cleaners
Bleach
Distilled Water
Heavy Duty, extra long outdoor hoses
Trash Bags - tall kitchen bags & 39 gallon or larger bags
Plastic Brooms
Heavy Duty Dust Pans & Scrubby Sponges

General Wish List

Box Fans
Barrel Fan

Dog Wish List

Pedigree canned food for puppies and adults
Small brown kibble dry dog food
Hot dogs to medicate sick dogs
Rawhide Chews
Blankets and towels
Treats
Toys - old stuffed animals are great too!

Cat Wish List

Whiskas canned food Chicken or Lamb & Rice
Baby food - Chicken or beef and canned tuna for sick kitties
Non-clumping litter Wal Mart
Special Kitty Brand or TidyCat
Bedding - anything soft, plush or fuzzy (like bath mats, toilet lid covers, etc.)
Science Diet dry cat food - adult & kitten

Any donations from these list are greatly appreciated. These items aid in the care of the animals, and the maintenance of the shelter until we can find loving homes for our guests.
