We grow a garden as well as have grape vines, cherry trees, apples, peaches, and plums... none but the grapes are producing fruit so far.

We also have chickens for meat and eggs.... compost their manure.

So obviously with that statement we have a compost pile. Dh made it from pallets he picked up from a job site (he's in construction).

I used to make a lot of our cleaning supplies with white vinegar, baking soda, ammonia, and lemon juice. I will be going back to that.

I have been using a crystal for deodorant (found in health food store) and it contains no aluminum.

We have begun buying organic fruits and vegetables as well as organic dairy and meat products. Our chickens are not laying right now (???) and I've found a local source for fresh eggs on the cheap ($1.50 a dozen) and another source for fresh organic veggies (roadside stand) for ones we are not growing this year (which is a lot because we didn't get a full garden in ).

What are some of the things you are doing?

We grow a few veggies in our yard. We don't have much of an area yet since we just moved in to this house last year in August.
Growing tomatos, cucumbers, and squashes.
Last year we grew peas, corn, beans, tomatos, lots of different kinds of squash, rasberries, radishes, and I grew a few herbs. Love cilantro fresh from the garden. Yummy!

I forgot about the pear trees and apple trees we had at the last house we lived at. It was so nice just picking your own fruit from your own yard. No fruit trees yet here. I want to plant blue berry bushes and get rid of the ugly red thorny bushes around the yard.

No yard for me, so I can't grow anything. I'll buy fresh basil and keep that in water. That's as close as I get to growing =]

As much as I can buy natural and organic I will. I swear by Stonyfield yogurt and can't remember the last time I got eggs that weren't organic and cage free.

ShopRite has a great selection of organic and vegan items, if anyone wanted to know.

I would go 100% organic if I could afford it but I try to hit on the important things.

Eggs. This is really hard because they're a main source of protein for us right now & sometimes I can't pass up an excellent, non-organic, deal but we eat about 80% organic eggs and DS eats 100%. Same with meat except we eat about 50% organic meat and DS, again, 100%.

As far as fruit. Anything with edible skin we always try to get organic since these are the worst for pesticides, etc. We used to have this awesome delivery service called "Absolute Organics" that delivered a mixure of fresh organic fruit and vegetables right to our front door every week for a very reasonable price but, since we moved out to BFE, we can't get delivery out here & probably couldn't afford it anyway.

I keep a pretty good stock of Earthbound Organic coupons so carrots, spinach & leafy greens are not a problem and we always have all three.

I try really hard to concentrate on giving DS a good start with green products. We use the Earth's Best line for diaper rash ointment and wash. I give him organic Parent's Choice formula and all organic animal products (i.e. meat, cheese, eggs).

We go for free range when we can't afford organic. It's a good, 2nd option.

We have a compost bin but I'm ashamed to admit that I only compost my yard waste right now.

I have a garden that I HATE because nothing ever grows!!!

I recycle everything. It's my way of aleviating my guilt over using disposable diapers (I know, horrible!)

I'm working on this area of life, especially for DD.

We'll have a bigger & better garden next year. Got a late start to one this year.

DS3 is a vegetarian so we buy a lot of organic and health type stuff in relation to his non meat eating.
I used to grow a garden but it became cost prohibitive after a while (watering, soil, plants, feeding them, etc)

I recycle a lot of things and of course the normal papers, plastics, glass.

I try to remember the re-usable bags (of which I have many) as much as I can.

We are currently buying a produce box from a local farm. They deliver every week. I've never been into organic, but lately have started thinking along those lines. We've had a garden in the past, but not this year which I really really miss. We plan on having one next year. We do have an apple tree and two grape vines so I can what we get from those and we also have a young avocado and orange tree.

My goal now is to use the produce box as our main staple during the week and start adding more organic/healthy foods. We've gotten used to the quick, easy, processed foods and I really want to get away from those altogether.

I don't make my own cleaning/laundry supplies. Never really thought about it.

Foggy, do you (or anyone else) order things through Co-Ops? If so, which ones? I've heard of Azure Standard.

We grow our own tomatoes, basil and cilantro. I'm into organics for the health food value of it, not much else. I'm just a health food nut. My mom lives about 10 minutes away, and she grows tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, squash, zucchini, and bell peppers. Gives them to me for free!
