I buy and eat whole food and cook from scratch. I grow some herbs in the summer. I'm not into gardening because I have a million other hobbies that keep me from remembering to water plants.
I make my own cleaners, laundry detergent, daily shower spray, and I'm working on dishwishing detergent. I reuse, repurpose, and remake everything I can before I formally recycle it. I make my dog's treats and he eats holistic food made in the US from human grade ingredients. It never has coupons but the pet store has a buyer card where I get a free bag after so many punches. |

We live in an apartment so we don't have much room to grow except patio garden, of which we have had very little success. We are just now starting to get into organic and cage free. We are actually checking out a local farmers market tomorrow and see what the quality and price is for their produce. Any advice in this area is greatly appreciated....

I definitely buy organic food and natural cleaning products, although I do make some of my own cleaning products or use simple products like baking soda and a rag instead of paper towels and 'cleansers' for ex on the countertops.
In fact I've gotten into couponing so that I have money to go organic on more of our food. My goal is to get organized enough to make more of our food from scratch, like soup and bread. Hi, all! |

Who here buys Organics and/or Natural Products? Yes
Grows your own fruits and veggies? Yes I have a fairly large ORGANIC garden. The apple trees apples were ruined last year by coddling moths so I am trying natural remedies for that. Makes some of your own natural products (cleaning, shampoo, etc.)? I make my own cleaning supplies. Make my own bath salts. I have not found a homemade shampoo that leaves my hair in good shape but I don't use sulfates. I even make my dog her dog treats. I have never been a person to eat processed food. Grew up poor on a farm and Grandma taught me to cook everything from scratch. I don't eat any meat, fish or dairy products. I also compost, recycle or upcycle almost everything and am a nut about saving energy and water. I was suffering terribly with chronic asthma attacks and chronic hives. I switched everything. Problem resolved almost entirely. |

Foggy..when you grind your own wheat berries ...do you have to worry about the dust exploding? I've never seen an electric grinder like you are using but I just wondered about this the other day. I used to work in a major bakery where there was a danger of an explosion every time flour was delivered. Something about the dust in the air and electric sparks. Just wondered if you knew as you seem very knowledgeable about everything. Will be checking out the organic coupons next. Hope this thread takes off...love reading everyone's ones ideas. I no longer garden due to health issues...severe asthma, bad back...ya da ya da ya da...you get the picture, but I do hit all my friends gardens in the summer. When a huge crop is in...a true gardener can't stand to let it go to waste. |

I cannot believe how much difference getting rid of chemicals has made. The weird thing is that I thought before that I lived carefully to avoid chemicals. I started researching and there are chemicals in everything. Tom's Of Maine soap and deodorant are very good choices for me. I have also learned a lot from Pinterest. BIG THING THAT I DID- I no longer have any carpet in the house. I had a severe asthma trying to pull it up so I hired some teens to pull up the carpeting and had a professional (a friend of mine who did at a bargain price) install ceramic tiles. I think that was the most important thing that I did. Loads of chemicals in carpeting and you can't really clean them well. If you use it a wet carpet cleaner, that breaks down the padding which adds dust and mold into the air. . I pray that you will be well. Last edited by Lisaco; 05-05-2012 at 09:22 PM.. |
