A friend of ours and her family is also eating more organically. She can't afford go "all organic" either.
She told me this.... "Buy what you can organically that really matters most to you. If you can't afford all the organic fruits and vegetables, buy the ones that matter most to you." She further stated that they are also eating less dairy and less meat. She opts for fresh veggies or ones that she can peel or wash readily. So that got me to thinking... We are the same way as far as can't afford organic completely... so we are doing what we can with what we have... and that's all that one can do. You have to do what you can that is the best for your family at the current time. Anyone else come to conclusion like this or have another thought along these lines? We try to buy organic/natural items we eat a lot of. My toddler eats a lot of mac and cheese, PB, apples, applesauce, cereal, strawberries, etc. Fruits that are thicker skinned (ie bananas, avocado) we feel better about going non-organic.
I try to focus on the items that we tend to consume a lot of at our house. The other stuff, I don't worry too much about otherwise I just end up going crazy. The small steps really add up and can make a difference. |

I have heard its best to get some organic fruits and veggies if they are not peeled....but if you remove the skin/peel- like oranges, bananas- its a better strategy to buy these as conventional (not organic) to save money

I feel the same. I don't buy all organic for canned food but my 1st grade daughter was wanting spaghettios for lunches...the thought of her consuming those so often just grossed me out. So we compromised and I buy Trader Joe's organic "O's" instead....they are about 50% more but they taste the same (she is a picky eater) and I feel better about it than the others.
I also don't buy all organic lettuces but I always have spring greens on hand for myself for salads and I do always buy those organic. |

we do the very same! organic milk is one thing i wont budge on. we buy that no matter what. i also don't limit on how much we drink of it. if a half gallon is gone in a day so be it. i'll buy more. at first it was a killer to pay but now i dont blink twice at the thought that we prolly spend close to 50.00 dollers a month on milk. i also buy organic peanut butter. the girls LOVE it and use it as dip for fruit and veggies. i buy all natural grass fed beef. its only .20cents more per lb than the non all natural 92%

i started buying organic bananas after some guy i was talking to at the store that some of the non-organic bananas are injected with something to make them ripen faster?! i was kinda grossed out. but i noticed the organic ones tasted sweeter and stayed fresh longer so i have been buying those for my toddler.

I buy organic when i can.. if it's available. I will not go out searching for it. I got to Trader joes, whole foods or Central market.. We have tons of those around here.
![]() I do chicken, veggies, snacks, breads, meat, etc organic... but there are times I will buy them at costco in bulk to save me money. In this family we don't eat pork and we eat beef about 3 times a month, chicken about 7 times a month.. the rest is seafood. Veggies is an everyday thing. Fruits as well. They are always ready at the breakfast bar for everyone to grab and munch on. My daughter loves fruits and veggies. She eats every single fruits and veggies you can think of except for onions. LOL |
