Sorry that you're feeling down. I hope everything works out well for you and your family. A career change may be a good thing, I really don't know, I just know that the textile industry used to be a big industry in the U.S., and now most of our textile industry has been shipped overseas. Whether or not a career change is the correct way to go or not, only you and your hubby can answer. I agree, his age could hinder a career change. But, some things in his skill set most likely crossover into other industries.
I truly understand you wanting to put your kids first. I would not want to uproot a kid that age unless it is necessary. Your kids may or may not be interested in moving to a new locale. But, in the end, as the parent, you will still have to put them first, whether that means possibly taking a lower a paying job or dead end job just to survive and not uproot them, or uprooting them to be able to provide for them. Also, in making the decision, you need to think about their future as well, if you plan on helping them with college, you guys will need a job that provides the financial means to do so, which could limit the pay cut that would be considered.
With that said, I'm glad that you reached out to your friends here; and that it is helping you to feel better. Don't think twice about doing it again. If you need a pick me up, read through this thread again, see how many people care and are concerned about you. You have a lot of friends here on WUC and a lot of good people are on your side.
Best of luck with the interview on Monday.
