Not only that, but our lease is up at the end of this month, ds#1 is a high school senior and ds#2 is a sophomore in high school. I hate to move them and it looks like that will be the case. Add to that the fact that I am feeling useless because I don't work - don't ask, looooong story and I am trying to hold everyone together.

I don't mean to whine and I'm sure all of you have been in some sort of case like this and I so appreciate your kind words.

Do you have some program in your area that will help family in need?

We have filed for unemployment, but in NC, for some reason, we have always had to wait at least 6 weeks, so it shouldn't be long. I have gotten my EBT which thankfully in NC is more than I budget when dh is working so at least we eat. There is a program which will pay for power/gas/water, but so far, we haven't needed that.

The tough part is when you are used to bringing in a certain amount and it's gone and savings can only last til it's gone. His line of work is mostly offshore or overseas, so there are few jobs to be had and at his age, most think it's impossible for him to do something different, or at least they don't want to be the guinea pig.

Dh has an interview on Monday and I would appreciate prayers for that.

I understand fidder. Our savings is slowly dwindling from a pinch here to a tad there to get by.

Y'all are all too kind and I do appreciate it. It's just the fear talking and the uncertainty of the future. I know I'm not alone in this and that makes me feel better.

Fidder,
Sorry that you're feeling down. I hope everything works out well for you and your family. A career change may be a good thing, I really don't know, I just know that the textile industry used to be a big industry in the U.S., and now most of our textile industry has been shipped overseas. Whether or not a career change is the correct way to go or not, only you and your hubby can answer. I agree, his age could hinder a career change. But, some things in his skill set most likely crossover into other industries.

I truly understand you wanting to put your kids first. I would not want to uproot a kid that age unless it is necessary. Your kids may or may not be interested in moving to a new locale. But, in the end, as the parent, you will still have to put them first, whether that means possibly taking a lower a paying job or dead end job just to survive and not uproot them, or uprooting them to be able to provide for them. Also, in making the decision, you need to think about their future as well, if you plan on helping them with college, you guys will need a job that provides the financial means to do so, which could limit the pay cut that would be considered.

With that said, I'm glad that you reached out to your friends here; and that it is helping you to feel better. Don't think twice about doing it again. If you need a pick me up, read through this thread again, see how many people care and are concerned about you. You have a lot of friends here on WUC and a lot of good people are on your side.

Best of luck with the interview on Monday.
