Default Sears Store Closings

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news again. This article appeared on my FB feed this morning. The individual stores affected are published in the list. I don't shop at Sears much, but I can remember my parents shopping there for appliances, tools, and housewares.

Our Sears closed down a couple years ago and now we have to go to a town about 40 minutes away for a Sears. My dh likes to shop sears for tools and lawn equipment. I like their sales on clothes, towels and bedding.

Sears is actually in much worse shape than this. Sears recently put their Craftsman (tools and lawn equipment), Kenmore (appliances) and Die-Hard (automotive) brands up for sale to help raise cash. This is desperate move to sell profitable assets to raise cash to survive. This afternoon it was announced that Stanley Black & Decker have agreed to purchase Craftsman for $900 million dollars. That's pretty sad since those tools used to be good quality and reliable. Can't say much for either Stanley or Black & Decker these days, since most of their products are cheap and made in China. My husband collects antique tools and Stanley planes are much coveted because of the quality of their materials and design, the new ones are of inferior materials and design, which is sad.

Totally agree. Most of our tools are Craftsman brand. Which before Sears took over Kmart, Craftsman brand tools were only available at Sears. I think it is a good that Kmart sells the Sears brands. Now, I hope Stanley Black & Decker keeps the same quality in their Craftsman brand that Sears made Craftsman tools known for. I sure hope they don't wreck the brand name like Chrysler did with Mercedes.

I agree, we have a lot of craftsman tools...would hate to see them go downhill, too. I was surprised to see AceHardware sells craftsman items. I noticed that a year or 2 ago
