I know there is a post regarding the Colgate RRs, but am posting this question in the Walgreens general area in the hopes I can understand Walgreens Policy correctly for future register rewards deals . . .
Last night, after I read the RRs were rolling, I went with my 2 Colgate RRs to separately purchase 2 more Colgates (I had already bought 2 with coupons earlier). The cashier said that if I used a Colgate RR to buy a Colgate toothpaste, a new RR would not print out. I said 'that's OK', because of what I had read here and assumed she just did not know that this deal was rolling. We were talking about this as the transaction was completed and I said 'I think this Colgate RR will still print out'. As it was actually printing, she said 'If it does, we will have to destroy it. It is not supposed to print for something you just used one on.' She then proceeded to tear it up! She said that it was called 'looping' and that they were not supposed to give the RR out . . . Is this correct and the policy is just not followed elsewhere, or was this cashier making her own policy?! Thanks in advance for any advice. |

I remember this happened to several Wuckies during the Dove soap deal about 6 months or so ago. Cashiers were told to destroy the RR's.

Wow, I've heard of stores referring to "looping" but to tear up a RR that you just earned would tick me off! Now, if she had told you before your purchase that they were only allowing one RR for say Colgate and you went ahead and purchased it anyway, knowing because of what you heard that the RR would print, I would kind of understand where they were coming from. They are trying to eliminate people rolling the same RR indefinitely but still....

Yes, she was saying it as the transaction was happening. Then, I thought to myself that I had just bought the toothpaste for free so it was OK. I was so flustered, though, that it didn't occur to me until after I left that I actually lost out on the $3 RR for the first purchase. So, even if my out of pocket for the second Colgate was $.20 tax, I had paid $2+ for the first colgate to receive the $3 RR . . .
I do want to mention that she was very nice throughout the process and didn't imply that I was buying too many, etc. (only 2 anyway). |

So, were all of the cashiers across the country supposed to tear up the RRs for the Colgate this week? Or did I just run into a cashier who independantly decided that was the proper procedure for this situation, too?

I bet it was her call, because others said they got the RR when it printed.

Unfortunately it is up to the store when it comes to identical rolling..... however, I have never had a cashier not give me my reward much less TEAR IT UP!!! How dare her!! Grrrrr... I feel ya! For sure!!

I haven't done the toothpaste this week, minus getting ONE Sunday just to roll a $3 RR I had, so I can't comment on that. But, we have a Walgreens here that will only allow 1 RR per item, per person, per day. I did not know this when I went in a few months ago (I believe the Smart Waters were the deal). I did 3 transactions, 1st one with the water, 2nd one with something else, and the 3rd one was the water again. When I paid for the 3rd transaction, I was waiting on my change and my RR (which did print out). The manager rang me up, btw, and she said she could not give me the RR and took it and tore it up and threw it away. So, it does happen!

Definitely either a rogue store or rogue cashier since the majority of people have been rolling this RR deal since Sunday. Sorry you had issues at your store.
