Default Walmart vs. Regular Grocery Store -- which is cheaper?

O.k. so my mom and MIL were talking over Christmas about how they can get everything so much cheaper at Walmart. I don't always think that is true.

So if Walmart is your store of choice (or a top choice):

1) Why do you prefer it?

2) Do you really think it is cheaper?

I know not all items are cheaper @ WM even with their so called rollback. Many times, I've caught roll UPs, not rollbacks But what I like about WM Supercenters now is abundant tearpads, peelies, hangtags found everywhere.

For those of us with stores that double up to a certain amount PLUS ad match PRINTED ADs (no ad, no match), many items come out a lot cheaper after Qs are doubled and there's a bonus when such stores also print cats for national cat deals

I prefer Walmart for my normal grocery shopping. My husband and I tried doing a regular grocery trip at Kroger, Meijer, and Walmart. Overall we felt that we got more for our money at Walmart. Since joining this site and doing more couponing I have found at times it is beneficial to get some items at Kroger and/or Meijer due to sales. I still get the bulk of our items at Walmart. I've also found that the Walmart brand items are more often then not just as good as the name brand items and are much cheaper.

Overall I think the prices at Food Lion are higher than Walmart. I've started doing a lot of my shopping at Aldis for produce/milk/eggs/bread because it is way cheaper. That being said I will shop at Food Lion before Walmart because I end up with WAY more stuff than I need at Walmart so it always costs me more in the end. I hope that makes sense.

I think a lot of people use the mentality that you can get everything you need from Walmart. Although, lots of times that includes things you didn't need.

I try to avoid Walmart, if possible.

While I do shop WalMart, it is very limited.

I can get many things for better prices at Publix with their coupons, Target coupons and Manu coupons.

I have a much higher savings rate even if I take into context the cheapest price of the four stores (WalMart, Target, Kroger and Publix) Also, only my Kroger and Publix double and only up to .50.

I find the commissary is much cheaper then Walmart.... I am not a fan of Walmart only because theone near me is in a bad area and its not worth the risk.

I have found that I have to really watch prices - my Walmart is often the same price and some times even higher than Kroger. With doubles to .50 and sales, Kroger beats Walmart on most items here. I use Walmart more to ad match stores 15 minutes away and for items that I can't get at Aldi or Kroger.

I honestly only grocery shop at Walmart. Occasionally I will go in my food Lion or ingles only for meat. I sometimes price match over half my receipt on occasion all of it. We have ingles, food lion and piggly wiggly in our town. But publix, bilo, Kroger, Aldi, iga and target in surrounding towns. Ingles will double but with restrictions and a minimum purchase before it will double. I really never even venture to the "other side" of Walmart when grocery shopping. I use the dollar stores and drug for beauty & health. I gave found that with price match I haven't found that the local stores can be beat. I love our Walmart. Always clean and helpful.
