Didn't really know whether to post this here or under recipes, but just wondering if anyone dieting has tried to make quiche with skim milk (or even 2% milk) instead of whole milk or half & half? Just wondering how it turned out if you've tried it! Going to make one tonight and wanted to check in first before I try it

Have made quiche several times with skim milk. It still turns out delightful.
There is less fat then and is a little healthier. I add cheese too. Delicious! |

I only use skim or 2% at our house and it doesn't seem to affect the taste of anything I've made.

Well, it turned out okay! A little watery in the middle, so I'm thinking I will just cut back the amount a little next time
. Thanks for the help! |

That is good to know Cheryl - thanks! I've been tweaking all kinds of recipes lately using skim milk, egg beaters, etc. I have a few recipes for Thanksgiving where I'll be using fat free evaporated milk instead of whole milk too. Just about every recipe out there can be adjusted in some way!

You have gotten me started to think about making some quiche to freeze for the holidays coming up.
I have leftover hashbrowns that are soft from supper tonight, as I always add a few potatoes to mine for some flavoring. Planning to make some pies this week for the holiday, so I might as well do the make ahead quiche. They are actually a very cheap meal if you make your own pie crust. Look in the refrig for any 'leftovers' you may wish to add. And there you have a delightful breakfast dish for pennies per person. Just think of the cost of those frozen breakfast foods in your freezer case, as compared to nutritious & delicious homemade. |
