Here we go again with "an acceptable or approved level" in our food supply. I don't care if it's in a gas form or liquid form, ammonia is not for eating. I don't want ammonia in my meat. Period. If I buy beef, I want and expect 100% beef, not beef and ammonia.

Thanks of much for posting this article!

I had no idea that it was still being used. I thought I remembered in the press when this first came to a head, that companies were pulling pink slime from their beef products.

Apparently not, and I'm shocked (well, not really) that the USDA has ordered 1.2 million pounds of pink slime to be used in school lunches for the 2012-2013 school year!!

No wonder our kids are messed up these days...

What scary is that the article talked about more of these processes, like pink slime, to come as the food industry continues to try and feed the world.

Definitely taking this as a stronger cue to have my own and grow my own food.

I think the worst thing is....what do you think they are putting in sausage, hot dogs, canned tuna that now looks like soup, and many other things. Meat that is not in its natural form (like steaks) make me feel sick to look at.

In and of itself the addition of ammonia to the beef is probably safe as deemed by the FDA and not going to kill us. However, what happens when you eat it with boxed mac n cheese, commercial buns, corn on the cob, and a nice glass of low fat milk. Now you got a mixture of the ammonia with the genetic modifications of the corn, the artificial food dyes, calcium propionate and sodium benzoate to keep the bun preserved, the chemical aspartame keeping the low fat milk good tasting and lets not forget the loads of sodium that come with pre-packaged food.

This is now all in your body at the same time. I'm sure they are all relatively 'safe' on their own, or they wouldn't be allowed in food, but has anyone taken their safety into consideration when all eaten at one meal. There are reasons our generation is (my assumption) the fattest and most unhealthy in all of mankind. Why is no one researching the effects of all these chemicals together in one meal.

i want to add this also..
with all these additives going into our foods and the certain foods or favorites of the kids.. then look at all the conditions and situations the parents and kids are having to deal with these days
zero disrespect intended but i do feel all the processed foods do have something to do with the situations and conditions we are seeing in our kids
and yes i am thinking of a green house to continue to grow my own veggies, also contacting a local small town meat proccessing plant near by, and need to add a freezer in my picture
if you just sit back for a couple minutes and think thru all the news stories of the additives and the stories of all the recalled foods.. just think a couple minutes ??
just how much control do we really have in this food chain
yes we have the control we choose to take
have a great day all
