Default For those who work at home

What do you do to break up the boredom? I work at home and have for the past almost 5 years. Before that I was a SAHM for 3-1/2 years. I feel like I am always home. While I love my job and wouldn't change it for the world.....I have lost contact with everyone I used to work with and considered friends. It seems like the only time I leave the house is to get groceries and go to Wags....which I am loving BTW. DS is playing soccer, which is great, and then basketball will start soon too. I just need something for me.

Do you have any hobbies or anything that you do outside of the home? I am trying to do more things for myself and DH is great about me going out and doing things for myself, but I just don't know what to do. KWIM?

Maybe you could learn a craft. I work from home, but I am rarely bored.

I know what you mean. You need some me time. With winter coming cabin fever will set in. Just some suggestions. Offer to help with the blood drive. I used to help at the kids school. I am making my own soap, trying to braid a rug.

Tracy, do you have any tips on getting start with medical transcription? I did it over 10 years ago, but wasn't trained. I've thought about getting back into it but am hesitant to pursue it.

Kelly....most companies will want you to have recent prior experience.

My suggestion would be if you are really serious about getting back into it is to take a course. Then it will be much easier to get hired somewhere. I would suggest looking into Career Step. They only did transcription when I took the course, but I think now offer medical coding as well. Another online course is M-Tec. If you take either of these courses and get a really good grade on the final exam....you will have little trouble finding work. Some companies will wave the recent prior experience needed with these two schools.

If you ever have any questions....feel free to PM anytime.

Thanks Tracy. I looked into a course a couple years ago, but it wasn't either of those two. I'll go look them up.

How about joining a book club or something if you enjoy reading? Or look on meetup.com and see if there's anything that interests you in your area? Or if your child goes to school, there are always things to be involved in at school, go to the PTA meetings, be on special committees or whatnot.

I usually have a girls night out with friends once a month. We will go see a movie or have dinner together.
