Mmmmm you're all making me hungry! Can't wait to get there and try out your suggestions! We have eaten (and really enjoyed) Papadeaux. We also have eaten at a place (near where my father works) called Golden Seafood... I love their shrimp Cancun.... We also make a lunch or two out of Central Market! I can't wait to take my son there to see all the live seafood!

You can eat there for about $10-$12 adult (i'm including drinks on that). Order light b/c you will fill up on chips.

Pappadeaux is very good- it's cajun/seafood and it has a little more upscale feel. I always want to be a little nicer dressed when I go there (I think you are not allowed to have a tank top on in there...I read that on the sign last time I was there a month or two ago...something to remember b/c it is hot here and you migth be wearing one). I do not like's Pappa's bbq or Little Pappasitos (the other restaurants run by this family). They ok...but other places do the same things better. Pappadeaux definitely has the cajun seafood mkt cornered for me. I can eat there for $10-$15 but I eat lighter...like Tilapia with sides. The fried foods are cheaper, too.

Saltgrass Steakhouse- they have a lunch menu which is cheaper. It is just a very Texas restaurant with steak, grilled chicken, baked or sweet potatoes, salads, etc. I've never had a bad meal there and I think I've had almost everything on the menu. It would be about $10-$15/person

IF YOU REALLY WANNA SPLURGE, I have been to Fogo De Chao- Argentinian or CHilean ?) steakhouse. It's VERY expensive, but sometimes you wanna splurge on vacations. We have been there for company CHristmas parties. It's about $80 a person at night but it's all you can eat. They bring out expensive cut sof meat on swords...it's an experience. Ruth's Chris is also good, you would look to spend $50/person. Both of these places I would not take kids. There is also an upscale place called "Taste of Texas" that I would feel ok taking kids. It's the same kind of stuff as saltgrass, just more upscale. It would be $40-$50/person. People also seem to love the Melting Pot (a fondue place) but I have never been. It might be fun to just do dessert there one day.
I don't live in Houston, but I agree with Marbear. Definately try Chuy's and their creamy jalapeno. I also really like Pappadeaux. (now I'm getting hungry). Both Restaurants have the menus on their website.

I live in Dallas. But if your going to Houston, or any place in Texas it is very important to eat 'Texacun' food.

Kips Big Boy for breakfast buffet. Make sure you get some grits to go with that slab of ham and egg's over easy.

For lunch you need to try that BBQ on the side of the road. The one with the really big smoke stack. Now that's some good eatin'.

Then dinner comes along. If you can find a Poor Richards or something like that to have a plate of chicken fried steak, fired okra, mashed potatos and gravy with a big ol bowl of black eye peas and some corn muffins on the side.

Now that's eatin Texacun!

I had to write my SIL to find out the other restaurant that we went to. It's called Hydens Seafood Restaurant off Hwy 105 in Conroe, TX. The food was great and the service was fantastic. We got to the restaurant a little early and when we told the servers that we were on vacation, they were telling us about all kinds of places to go visit. Just unbelievably nice people. I would definitely go back.

I agree with all of this. Fago is Brazillian and can be pricey, they have another place on Montrose called Nelore. Same owners, same food, they just off less meat options, but they are just as good.

I like Chuy's, too. It isn't my favorite, but it is good. I can't stand their margaritas, though. Bleah.

Okay...I'm here!! Planning on going to several of the suggestions! Already had my sandwich from Central Market (first night meal every time we're here!) Had Potbelly Sandwich for lunch today...not to bad!

Can anyone tell me where I can get Sunday's papers on Monday down here?? I remember getting them discounted on Mondays last time I was down...but don't remember where!!! I'm in the Westheimer/Alabama/Westlyan area.
