Help Cannot pay bills.... HELP!

I am a full-time college student and full-time mommy to babies under 2 (Yes, very stressful!) My husband was laid-off about a month ago but Unemployment isn't enough to cover for everything we or the babies need. I have WIC and coupon but this is not money making. I really need help (rent is due in about a week!) don't know what to do! Please HELP!! (We live in North Dallas)

Look up your county social services and contact your local utility company to find out what programs are available for assistance. Again, look at your county resources for food banks and sign up for food stamps if you qualify. We will pray for you! Many of us are in the same boat.

Have you applied for food stamps, checked with your local food bank, or checked with your local church to see what help is available? I know it must really be tough right now but remember this is temporary. I will say a prayer for you and your family.

Ive been there. We muddled through somehow, but there are no quick fixes to that situation. We bummed and borrowed money, reduced debt by calling utility companies and arranging budget billing plans, sold one car, worked for our landlord babysitting and yard work and house maintenance and he would give us money off of our rent. Weve pawned things and had yard sales. It all depends on the people in your life, if you do have a religious organization that you can go to, that would be my first step for any kind of immediate assistance. If you have family that would help you out...even if you dont think they would youd be surprised. I had an uncle who I thought despised me, until he agreed to pay of 8 months of my mortgage so we could get on our feet (mind you I only asked for one month) Just breath, pray and coupon. It never hurts to ask for help. See if your local county assistance office can help with foodstamps or cash assistance or even just a referral to an outside organization that might help. We have a Neighborhood Community Center here that pays a portion of your rent directly to your landlord twice a year as long as your landlord agrees to write a notorized statement that you are late and on the verge of eviction. There are all sorts of ways to find help, but its a lot of phone calls and asking....wish you the best, good luck

Saying a prayer for you! I'm in a similar boat right now. I lost my job 6 wks ago .. unemployment has not been enough to cover the bills. And even on unemployment i did not qualify for ANY state assistance .. ( i love the preconcieved notion that every unemployed person is eligible for food stamps! ha! i wish!) Luckily, I start a new job tomorrow .. just a lot farther drive and about 14k less a year! but, a job is a job right now!!! good luck!! and YES, LOOK INTO YOUR RESOURCES!!!

You can call your local Salvation Army, they will help with electric, water, and rent, you can call your local community action center they as well help. If you have a home phone dial 211 they will direct you to the assistance you need. I know what you are going thru. I have 2 kids at home, i have battled cancer 2 times, rheumatoid disease, I have lupus and mini brain strokes. Therefore i cannot work and bring in $135 a month to support us. Luckily i have gotten help from some of the community around here to assist us with needs. Also, while your hubby isnt working, its a great idea to start unplugging everything you are not using at that moment. You wouldnt believe how much i save on electric just unplugging the microwave, toaster, all small appliances when not in use.
