Wasn't sure where to post this, feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place. I've been reading lots of posts about reselling items bought with coupons at flea markets lately. I say this not to start a debate on ethics, as I have no opinion either way. However, just wanted to put out there that this may not be the case when buying cosmetics, household products, or hba items. In my state we have a huge counterfeiting problem with the flea markets.

I love flea markets and actually have been many times to the one mentioned in the article. I NEVER buy these types of items there tho. Mostly go for the used area. Have made some great finds there. For instance my sister collects depression ware and I'm always finding it there. This article details just some of the things they have found in the fake perfumes and so on.

I have another concern about counterfeit cosmetics and that is the potential health risk they present.

As a retired US Army Food Inspector and Health Inspector one of my responsibilities involved recalls of Foods, Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics that presented a health risk to consumers.

Although the products that I was involved with were produced by listed, approved or legitimate companies I would be very much be concerned about any products that were not manufactured in an approved facility and counterfeit cosmetics would fall into that category. Fake or counterfeit cosmetics could present a potential health risk to the consumer.

I have never thought of anything ever being counterfeit. My concern has always been the fact that makeup does expire and my eyes especially aren't something I want to toy with. I will buy from a store like CVS because if I find out something is past it's deadline I can return it.

I have to agree - I never buy those types of items at flea markets either. (I'll buy everything else tho lol)

Frugal as I am, I have found that makeup is one area where if I spend a little more it actually lasts longer and ends up costing less.

That may be. But I wouldn't bet my health on it. I'd rather pay full price then just assume or believe they came from legit store sales/couponers. It's not like they'd tell us they were fake.
