So you are looking at about $380 every four weeks on gas & groceries. You need to factor entertainment in too since you say you guys like to do a lot. I personally would put back at least $200 into starting your emergency fund, if not more. Really depends on what you guys do for entertainment though. HTH.

Get $1,000 in savings. Once you have that, pay off your car. After you are totally debt free you'll need 3-6 months expenses in your savings in addition to the $1,000.

"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Titus 2:3-5

"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." Titus 2: 11-14

honestly if it was me i might invest some of it in what they call junk silver or physical gold.... the price of silver and gold are going up and if u have a precious metal it will be worth more if something bad happens in the economy

Don't forget to think of your emergency fund as an investment. Yes, you want some of it in a simple savings account that you can access readily...but lets face it, the interest rates on those suck! Lock half of it up in a CD with a good interest rate. If you have to break it, you don't loose the money you put in...just part of the interest (which will probably still be more then a standard savings account)
