so alot of u know we lost our baby buddy in may. we had a hard time dealing with it and we planned to get another dog some day. well an elderly neighbor came by the other day and said a dog took up at their house but he couldnt take care of it, if we could. dh went to get it. well this dog has been abused and not fed. she is so puny and doesnt even bark just whimpers and cries. she will not eat dry dog food only can food. she was covered in ticks and fleas and is pitiful. maybe she will be ok.

Awww..so sorry about your baby Buddy. That is so nice of you to take the puppy in. She just probably needs to get used to the fact that now she will be loved and fed. And once the fleas and ticks are gone, she should be feeling better.

I'm happy the dog found a good home. I have a concern here, unless the dog has dental issues, being hungry and unfed it should be eating any food given to it, including dry food. The dog will feel much better once the ticks, fleas and a good bath are taken care of.

nope she wont touch the dry food. i would think she would eat it because she is so tiny u can see her ribcage. dh told me to mix the dry with the can food. maybe we need to check her teeth.

A small word of advice in case you don't know... ( I use to foster rotties and pitties before I had my daughter) A emaciated dog needs to have 3 to 4 small meals a day at what her ideal weight should be. Some emaciated dogs will eat till they are so full they make themselves sick while others eat very little or what you put in front of it... Some dogs will turn their nose up to kibble but once your put water in it, the aroma and smell of the kibble smells good and they eat it... (plus water in kibble is good to help prevent bloat in your larger dogs) Week 1 for me was very simple... The needs were taken care of, not alot of affection or talking to dog... I observed dog, watched how it wanted to interact with my dogs(mine are so use to dogs coming in and out, I didn't have to worry about them per say..), didn't push a relationship on it, and took it slow, especially for the dogs who needed time to heal and groceries... Have you tested her for heartworms and "regular" worms? If not, I would encourage that as that will have her feeling better... Oh, and if you haven't done so yet, a good bath, groom, and brushing is a simple way of getting them to perk up..
Anyway, congrats on your new addition! Sorry, I can babble when it comes to dogs... Lol..![]() Mommy to Adrianna and Furkid, Riddick TT, CGC and GSD puppy, Dakota RIP Isabella, TT, CGC Aug 18, 2004- May 17, 2012 |
