So, the first time this happened was July 2009. My card was with Citi-mastercard then and they called me right away when the saw the suspicious charge: new tires in Mexico.
This time, I was about to make a payment online on my account (american eagle visa) and it said that my account didn't have online access. Last time this happened I was trying to make a payment to my school. Since it was so large they didn't allow it to go through. Well, I called customer service and she started going through the previous charges to make sure I made them, and sure enough, I hadn't. There were a ton of charges made yesterday. I didn't use my card yesterday. Really random ones too. A hotel in Mexico (hah! Mexico again), bus fare, zoosk.com and some other really random ones. She closed the account and they are sending me a new card/number. They are also sending me a fraud investigation packet to go over the charges and choose which ones I didn't make. I am very thankful I have a credit card company that will flag my account when weird charges are made. It is just more of an inconvenience. I've always been curious how people steal credit card numbers. Did they get it from a company I purchased from? Did they get it when I made a purchase in a store? At a restaurant? I don't know. All I know is that lately I have been trying to keep cash around more and pay with that and to pay with paypal when I can. The customer service woman suggested I call equifax and make them verify with me before anything is done under my name/identity. Even if I open up a credit card account they would have to contact me first to verify. Has anyone done this before? Just trying to study for my licensing exams and save money so I can start a residency in July 2014!

I had mine stole for the second time not that long ago. I went to a hole in the wall mexican restaurant and apparently they are the ones that wrote down my numbers and booked a plane ticket to columbia!! The reason I am certain they are the ones that took my card info is because I had never used that card =)

Oh wow! That's crazy you figured out who did it! '
I have no clue who could've used mine. I am not going to beat myself up about it though, because I don't think I'll ever figure it out. Just trying to study for my licensing exams and save money so I can start a residency in July 2014!

I'm so sorry that has happened to you!
I had my card number stolen, it was a new card & I had only used at one place, Amazon.com! When I contacted them about it, so they could track through and find the person who would have taken the order etc., they insisted it wasn't them. I explained it HAD to be, as just 2 days prior I used it there & they wouldn't even consider that it was them! I couldn't believe it! I told them right then I would never ever order from them again if they are not even willing to investigate & I haven't. Also, a year or so later. my step fathers card number was stolen, after an Amazon purchase. Those people charged airline tickets to Europe! No-one in my family orders from them, I won't even if it's a $100 item for only a $1! Schnucks Co-Forum Leader

I guess no matter how careful we can be there is always someone out there who is dishonest and will try and rip us off. Just trying to study for my licensing exams and save money so I can start a residency in July 2014!

This happened to me months ago...I was at home washing dishes when my phone rang, I answered it and it was my bank. They told me that there was a charge on my debit card 7 mins ago in Michigan for 287.00 dollars at Macys. I was so shocked! I live in New Mexico. They quickly canceled my debit card and filed a report. Thank goodness I have a bank that I can trust. Good luck on getting everything straightened out!

This happened to me as well, a small website I use regularly was hacked, and credit card numbers were diverted to a thief. I had multiple charges in France on my card within hours of the purchase online. My bank froze my account and contacted me - of course, the charges weren't mine and I was refunded the money. Since then the small website got an entirely new credit card system and has had no issues.
I hope you will be fully reimbursed, stooph! ![]() Note: Links that appear in posts may be affiliate links I get my whole inserts from Roasted Almond! Check out her most recent posts here: WUC Recommended Insert Providers |

I never worry about this as it is not your problem but the banks. That is why they are so careful. if you did not make the purchase, it is not your problem.
