Is it worth it to use the .25 off 2 coupons? I mean I know saving a few pennies in the long run is worth it, but if the item is $1.75, your only really saving $.12 1/2 cents on each. Is that worth it?
Just want to comprehend the BEST way to save money. Should the higher valued coupons be used more? That's what turns me off about using coupons is the $.25 off 2's |

Is it an item that you use anyway? Do you have a store that doubles and the savings would really be $.25 off 1? Do you have a store that sometimes triples and the coupon would then be worth $.75?
Here's another way to think about it. If the price is regularly $1.75, but goes on bogo and your store doubles then you could look at it like this: $1.75 (for 2 since it is on bogo sale) - .50 = $1.25 for 2. Now is it worth it to you? |

True, I never really did think about the double factor. I just know I'm missing out on saving since my grocery store does double. I NEVER use coupons unless it's a really GREAT one...I spend over $100 a week in goceries without coupons...

Well, now with all that said, I wouldn't march into the store and spend that coupon just because they will double it. I mean if you need that item, then it might make sence to do that, but otherwise hold onto it and see if the item goes on sale.
I don't always clip the .25 coupons, it really just depends on the product. This is something you have to figure for yourself. |

Yeah it just seems to me that sometimes it's not worth the clipping those out. Now like you said, if it's an item I would use, sure I would possibly cut it out. Just seems to me that I skip over ALOT of coupons when I did cut them out because A. I didn't use the product or B. It wasn't worth the .25/2

If I were you I would personally clip out ALL coupons (except for of course pet/baby if you don't have either) because I find products I don't believe I would buy on a great sale - and if I didn't clip out the coupon I would be out of luck

Personally I'd rather save .25 than nothing at all...
Most people on WUC who start to use coupons start to realize a 30-50% reduction in their overall grocery bill. I went from spending $150 a week or so for my family ( of 3! ) to spending only about $50-75, and that also includes great deals I'm stockpiling every week. ![]() My Clean Eating Blog: http://evewaspartiallyright.blogspot.com/ Note: Links that appear in posts may be affiliate links |

It is important to note that you will not see that 50% savings in the first few weeks. Initially you will need to stock up on cheap/free items to put in your stockpile AND the items you actually need to buy for the week. However, my goal everytime I step into a grocery store now is to save 50% or more (often more). The only time this doesn't happen is if the only thing I am going for is milk.

That's what I want my goal to be. I'd love to spend $30-40 bucks a week on groceries. The $100 is over a few day period. I go almost everyday for something and by the weekend, I've spent over $100. Stuff adds up after awhile.
Also working 65 miles away from home, means I use more gas (that's also $100 a week in gas), so I have to start saving...Starting with coupons and now trading my gas hog of a truck in. I guess .25 is better then nothing, right? Quote:

Just an example using the 0.25/2 thing here, I know it won't apply to everyone...
I bake a LOT, especially at the holidays and it seems that 0.25/2 Reynolds Baking Cups is pretty common and about the best coupon we get for that...this week at Harris Teeter we have triple coupons going on, so we're paying: 1.19 X 2=2.38-0.25/2(tripled)=1.63/2=0.81 each Not the greatest but they just don't seem to go on sale or give a better coupon, so I'm really really happy. And I agree with everyone else, if it's something you have to have, 0.25 is definately better than nothing!! Welcome to WUC! Did you know Chuck Norris was in Star Wars??... ......he was the FORCE!!!
