Default I'm getting free Walnut trees
My friend called and said "I've got you something". You'd have to know my friend to know that those words are dangerous at times.

But she had me 4 little walnut tree seedlings she found growing in her yard and they still had the walnuts on the bottom of them.

MIL has a walnut tree on her property and my son and I love to run down there and collect the walnuts! I wonder how long it takes a tree to go from a sproutling to a point where it starts having nuts.

You should be careful with these. I know from your other posts that you are a gardener. The walnut is from the family Juglandaceae. These trees produce a compound called juglone which can greatly harm or kill various plants (tomato, pepper,cherry, potato, peas, etc.). In fact this compound is used as an herbicide. Many people incorrectly believe that only the black walnut produces the toxin, but every genus of the family does, just in decreasing amounts. Age, weather, time of season, and size also factor in the amount of juglone in the soil. the toxin juglone can be present in the soil for five or more years after the tree has been removed.

At the very least you should be aware of the species of walnut tree you are planting.

Just a thought from one gardener to another.
