Here, it's nearly 9% on everything except food -- that's 1.5%. And they apply the tax to pre-coupon prices! yesterday went to CVS, my subtotal was around $7, but my oop was around $17 because of $10 in taxes...

Yes we have to pay tax on pre coupon also.
At least some food is tax free, like milk & eggs.
We do pay tax on some foods, like chips & soda.
We even have to pay tax on the paper.
Sunday paper $1.50 + .11 tax = $1.61.

well food,books and a few other things have 10% here in Austria and pretty much everything is 20% .... yeah it does suck.
